Some
time back an alternative process of gluing
instead of stitching was being tried out for
appliqué assembly to a garment front panel. The
process was tried out and the experiment deemed
a failure as the appliqué came out after three
washes or so. This was reported, I was surprised
and then checked the instructions on the glue
tube which said that seven days is the complete
curing time for the assembly to get the full
strength. I asked how many days had been given,
the team said three days and that in production
they may not get more than 3 day... mmmm.
Well
actually the garment takes more than seven days in
the factory itself before being shipped, in fact
almost 30 days plus, and there is enough time for
curing. The experiment was repeated with full seven
days of curing and then even after 25 washes the
assembly held. So the lesson- NO short cuts in
process.
