A MONKEY TALE - KAIZEN

S Badrinarayana

There were two orchards next to each other with one Orchard keeper quit harassed and the other quite happy and singing songs. One may ponder why?

Well the harassed guy had to constantly keep vigil against monkey attacks who used to raid in hordes and pluck the fruits, eat, half eat and generally destroy the place. At the other orchard the monkeys were not raiding at all!!!! The story goes that the orchard was growing Oranges and when the monkeys started peeling the fruit, the juice used to squirt and hit the eyes and it used to burn and well the monkeys shied away.

One day the monkeys were having a tough time. They were being chased by the other keeper and were, well… hungry. One- not too little not too old monkey, who had some memory of the oranges decided to raid it while the other keeper was comfortably snoozing away (there being no raids there for quite some time u know) This time he played a trick…he should not get any juice squirting into the eyes.

So he plucked the orange…hold your breath….And then he with one hand gripped the orange and took it behind his back ….. with the other hand started peeling it behind his back. Lo behold! the orange was ready to eat. No juice was squirted into his eyes.

Before you could say o r a n g e s the rest of the monkeys learned the trick and went raiding. In the midst of all this suddenly the keeper woke up saw the technique and realised he was done for. No more snoozing, and he now also had to keep vigil and chase /keep the monkeys away.

That evening when the keepers met the orange guy said to the other “Now I too am like u…. harassed. “Why? Why?“ asked the other keeper? So he related the technique and then both had a hearty laugh and thus ends the tale.

A true story…believe it or not
