Sumedhas, Academy for Human Context, is a 'Not for Profit' institution registered under 25C of the Companies Act, 1956 and is dedicated to fostering learning of human processes. It is a research and educational body founded by behavioral scientists with diverse backgrounds and a shared discipline in the field. The Academy is founded on an eclectic tradition, which draws its core principles from the eastern traditions of learning through meditative enquiry and self-discovery, as well as western traditions of empiricism, action and inquiry.
Through the application and extension of some of the insights that have emerged from work at Sumedhas Academy for Human Context, many of its members have pioneered an approach to Organization Development (OD) through Institution Building (IB). Sumedhas Fellows have helped organizations design and sustain forums for introspection, change and transformation that allow them to become self-designing and self-organizing. The on going action research and consulting practice of several Sumedhas Fellows has generated many unique practices, mental models and maps, instruments and approaches to unleashing the potential of human ingenuity and synergy
The field of OD and IB is in transition in India and elsewhere. This transition invites an ongoing study, for even in the process of studying it, we will collectively add much to it. This is the core raison d’ etre of Indian Academy of Organization Development -Sumedhas.
Thus, IAOD-S aims to foster the growth and learning in the fields of OD and IB. Towards this the Academy will offer workshops, support research and documentation and create forums for knowledge sharing as well as knowledge and practice evolution. IAOD-S will conduct three programs in the year:
Knowledge sharing and knowledge generating dialogue where the Fellows of Sumedhas will examine new approaches and establish a rigor through which viable and robust approaches to IB & OD are shaped. This dialogue will largely focus on the work done by the founders initially and will invite other Fellows of Sumedhas to bring in their approaches and departures.
An OD / IB Academe where we will take the participants through an in-depth exploration of innovations and practices developed by the leading practitioners of OD in the country. These academes will be enable the participant to be part of the evolving dialogue and discourse on OD/IB and influence the thought leadership of OD in the country.
An Internship in OD/ IB: IAOD-S will conduct a learning program for leaders and aspiring change agents in organizations where the participant will acquire the attitudes, mindset, skills and approaches necessary to be a change agent, institution builder and an executive coach. This will be rigorous and will include experiential lab methodology; case study based teaching and conventional classroom learning. Its primary mode will be of learning through application and therefore, project work and paper presentations to a collegiate group will form a primary anchor of the evaluation process.
