I have seen some strange notices and posters in toilets. One of them is “There is nothing that you have to do that is so important that it cannot be done safely”. The experience of having to read this while relieving oneself in a urinal is a priceless experience in the theatre of the absurd. Some smart “safety man” figured that he has a “captive audience” that just has to read this notice staring at ones face. Ones hands are busy ensuring that one is not sprinkling and closing ones eyes feels a little dangerous. This safety man is obviously not a fan of Deming who is categorical that “exhortations don’t lead to action”. Slogans on safety and quality “work” only for the poster maker! And yet, when I was zipping up, I did find myself being a little more careful. There was a friend of mine who had an agonizing accident when zipping up his jeans carelessly!
