WALKING ON THE “RIGHT SIDE” Raghu Ananthanarayanan

I was in the US recently for a short while. I noticed a very peculiar thing. Every time I walked through the corridors of the hotel (and the corridors there are long!), I found people bumping into / walking at me. I have the habit of getting engrossed in my own thought when I walk. So this phenomenon was very disturbing.

“Why are people walking on the wrong side of the corridor?” I began as I was discussing this with my colleague. Suddenly we realized that in the US the cars are “left hand drive”. People hardly walk on the streets. They were walking on the same side of the walk way as they would if they were behind the wheel of a car! I was doing “Right hand drive”-ing!!
